Kate Scheibli (b, 2001, Canada) is an artist currently living in London, who considers herself primarily a painter. She studied Fine Art, Painting and Printmaking, in Scotland and graduated from The Glasgow School of Art in 2023.

Her paintings explore a dynamic interplay of mark-making that is both energetic and assertive. Vibrant pixelated structures play across the surface, creating a sense of movement and rhythm. By drawing on familiar visual languages, she evokes both excitement and comfort, producing playful and engaging paintings.

She explores Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi’s concept of ‘flow,’ drawing a conscious parallel to her painting process and the immersive experience of working in detail. This prompts the consideration of time and change, as her larger work’s layered structures prompt viewers to retrace her decision-making process and the gradual evolution of each composition.

Her paintings reflect technology’s influence on contemporary art, merging rigid structures–representational of the digital–with expressive gestural brushstrokes inspired by abstract expressionism–representational of the analogue.
